Day 285: RM-01: G1 Convoy (Optimus Prime)

Starting in 2004, Takara began a line of modestly priced redecos akin the Universe series but also with a few new designs peppered into the mix as part of their brief Robotmasters series. Narrative support was light -- mostly through Japanese comics and prose fiction in magazines. The original molds tended to centered on very popular characters that spanned multiple media, like the first one of the line: G1 Convoy, better known to English-speaking audiences as Optimus Prime. This all new design is about the size of a typical action figure (4") and turns into a flat-nosed COE truck.

A design that's been used several times already -- see Jetstorm , Scattor , Thrust , Mach , and Quantum -- this version has some of its plastic parts in a translucent finish, giving it a high tech feel. Mad was available in Japan in 2003. He was later rechristened "Skull Buster" in Fan Club-generated lore.
